Finnsteve Kotka operating on Cosmos TOS
One of Finland’s major terminal operators, Finnsteve, recently started operations at a newly developed container terminal in Kotka, Finland.
Finnsteve has been using the Cosmos applications SHIPS, SPACE & TRAFIC at its existing facilities in Helsinki and Turku since the 1990s. At these facilities the Cosmos applications are interfaced to Finnsteve’s in-house developed host system. For the new terminal in Kotka, Finnsteve decided to implement the full suite of Cosmos applications, including the Cosmos host application CTCS and Signal5, and of course also SHIPS, SPACE & TRAFIC.
The go-live of the full Cosmos setup took place a week ago and the terminal is already up to speed with the new system. Finnsteve’s internal teams deserve credit for the smooth implementation process and the thorough training of all involved staff !
Cosmos and Finnsteve are currently also undertaking several other projects. More details on these projects will be revealed in later issues of this newsletter.
Success story of the Cosmos ‘Certified Technology Partners’ Program
A good example of the success of the Cosmos Partner Program is the implementation of the Gate OCR System at the Uniport Waalhaven Terminal in Rotterdam. For this project Cosmos worked together with two of its “Certified Technology Partners”: Dalosy Industrial Systems and IT Partner. Their mutual objectives with Cosmos are co-operation, establish long-term relationships with customers, and increase the terminal efficiency.
Dalosy Industrial Systems b.v. (DIS) is a member of the Dalosy Group of companies. DIS has a specialization on port automation. DIS supplies products for crane, gate and train video recognition of container number, IMO labels, license plate, empty check and damage inspection. Furthermore DIS integrates laser truck profiling systems, nuclear scan equipment and pedestal systems.
As a successful systems integrator and supplier of these port-orientated and vision-based OCR systems, DIS is a reliable partner for total implementation of the supplied systems.
IT Partner b.v. is a small but very effective IT company, mainly involved in logistic and technical projects in the port of Rotterdam. They not only create application software or install workstations, but also a wide range of systems is supported including hardware, networking and software.
IT Partner is specialized in port related systems and handles both small and complex projects. They also work closely together with both local and international partners.
At Uniport Waalhaven Terminal in Rotterdam, Dalosy supplied and implemented a second generation gate OCR system for the entrance and exit gate that automatically reads and records the container code number and the truck license-plate as the truck passes the gate complex. IT Partner guided the whole Uniport concept and developed the necessary interfaces between the Gate OCR System of Dalosy and the Terminal Operating System of Cosmos. In combination with the Cosmos applications for the terminal, Uniport is now using the Gate OCR system successfully.

Open Training Classes and Certification
On a regular basis Cosmos organises Open Training Classes for each of its applications. These Open Training Classes allow customers to send just a few people, who are either new users of the system, in case of a basic training or more experienced users looking to follow the advanced courses.
Upon completion of the course, each participant is invited to take an examination. When successful, the participant receives an official Cosmos certificate.
Recently these training courses were organised in Belgium. The program for the upcoming courses is as follows:
